Choosing a delivery profile

A delivery profile is the platform a cut is made for, and it decides the shape, length and limits the render is checked against.

A delivery profile names the platform a video is being cut for, and carries that platform's published requirements: aspect ratio, length limits and the rest. A composition version is cut for exactly one profile, and the check that a render satisfies it happens before any credit is reserved.

Ten platform profiles are held, and the set is versioned so you can tell which edition of the requirements a cut was checked against.

BEFORE YOU START

  • A video project with scenes on its rail, so there is something whose shape can be checked.
  • Knowing where the finished video is going. That is the whole decision.
  • No permission beyond what the composition editor already needs, and no credits.

STEPS

  1. In the composition editor, open the render panel and find "What the finished video is for".
  2. Pick the platform the finished video is aimed at. The profiles held are Instagram reel, Instagram story, Instagram feed, TikTok, YouTube short, Facebook feed, Facebook story, LinkedIn, X and Pinterest.
  3. Cut the composition version. The profile is frozen into the cut along with the document hash and the voices used.
  4. Read the facts table before submitting. The delivery profile it names is the one that will be checked.

WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE

The chosen profile named in "What a submission would name", and the cut version recorded against it. A later render of that version is checked against that profile and no other.

WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO

  • It does not re-cut for a second platform. If you want the same content for a different profile, cut another version for that profile.
  • It does not guess. A platform whose requirements are not held is not silently treated as unrestricted; the check reports that it does not know.
  • It does not refuse on a warning. Only a hard block stops a render; warnings and unknowns are reported and the render proceeds.
  • It is not a check on the finished file. Nothing in the product probes an output, so a length is either what a provider reported or what was requested.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK

  • "This render cannot satisfy the requirements of the platforms it is aimed at." means a hard requirement of the named profile is not met by the cut. Adjust the composition or cut for a different profile.
  • "This version was cut for a delivery profile this build no longer knows about." means the profile has been removed or renamed since the cut. Cut a fresh version against a current profile.
  • "Unknown target platform. Supported: ..." on a submission means a platform name outside the ten held profiles was sent.
  • "Name at most 10 target platforms, as a list." means a submission named too many.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Why is one version tied to one profile?

Because the shape, length and safe areas differ per platform, and a single file that satisfies all of them would satisfy none of them well. Cutting per profile is the honest arrangement.

Do voice and transcription renders need a profile?

No. Those two are the only exemptions, and each is written down with its reason rather than assumed.
