Connecting your channels

What the Connections page shows, which networks can publish today, and what the account health states mean.

Updated

Connections is the list of accounts Social Studio can publish to, together with every network it knows about and that network's real state. It is deliberately honest about availability: a network still waiting on platform review is shown as waiting and cannot be connected, rather than offered as though it worked.

On this release Bluesky is the only network cleared to publish. Every other network has a complete adapter that reports its state truthfully and refuses to publish, because the platform has not approved the application yet.

BEFORE YOU START

  • You need the "connect" permission to connect an account or flag one for reconnection. Reading the page needs "view" or "connect".
  • Your plan sets how many connected accounts you may have: none on Preview, twenty on Starter, forty on Growth, seventy-five on Scale, one hundred on Agency.
  • Connecting an account costs no credits, and scheduling a post never costs credits either.

STEPS

  1. Open Publish and choose "Connections", or go to /app/connectors.
  2. Read the "Networks" table. Each network shows its state: "Live" means ready to connect, "Awaiting provider approval" means the platform has not cleared it, "Sandbox" means approved for testing only, and "Adapter not built" means the work is ours and not something you can enable.
  3. Connect an account for any network showing "Live". Today that is Bluesky, and the form for it is in the "Connect Bluesky" card on the right.
  4. Check the "Connected accounts" table. The "State" column is the one that matters: only "Connected" and "Expires soon" can actually publish.
  5. For any account that cannot publish, choose "Flag reconnect" in its row. That marks it so whoever manages the credential knows to redo it.

WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE

The account in the "Connected accounts" table with a state of "Connected", and the "Health" panel counting it under "Publish-ready". The card meta at the top of the table reads as a count, for example "1 of 1 publish-ready".

WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO

  • It will not let you connect a network that is not cleared for production. If no network is live, the connect card is replaced by "No network ready to connect" rather than by a disabled form, because an action that cannot succeed should not sit on the page pretending it might.
  • It will not make an approval come faster. For a network showing "Awaiting provider approval", the page says plainly that this is waiting on the platform, not on Social Studio, and nothing here will make it faster.
  • There is no disconnect button. An account can be switched off through the API, which is also how you get back under your plan cap, but the page itself offers only "Flag reconnect".
  • It never shows you a credential. App passwords and tokens are exchanged server-side and no secret reaches this page.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK

  • "Your plan does not include any connected social accounts." means you are on Preview. Start a trial or upgrade.
  • "Your plan includes N connected social account(s) and all N are in use." means the cap is reached. Turn one off, or upgrade. Reconnecting an account you already hold never uses a new slot.
  • "connect permission required." means your role cannot change connections.
  • An account showing "Not verified" has no recorded expiry, so it has never been confirmed as working, and publishing to it is refused until it is reconnected. This is intentional: an unconfirmed credential is not treated as a working one.
  • An account showing "Expired" or "Reconnect required" will not publish, and scheduled posts to it will not go out. Flag it for reconnection.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Why can I see a network in the catalogue but not connect it?

Because the catalogue lists every network Social Studio has built an adapter for, and the state column tells you which of them the platform has cleared. Hiding the ones that are not cleared would leave you guessing whether they were coming.

What is the difference between "Expires soon" and "Expired"?

"Expires soon" means the credential still works but has under a week left, and publishing still works. "Expired" means it no longer works, and publishing to that account fails.

Does an account I have switched off count against my plan?

No. Disabled accounts do not occupy a slot.
