Planning a profile grid

Arranging tiles in the feed planner to preview how a profile grid will look, setting each tile's cover, caption and time, and what the mobile version can and cannot do.

The feed planner previews a profile grid before anything is scheduled. Tiles are laid out three across, in the order they will appear, and you move them until the grid looks right.

A tile is a plan, not a post. Setting a cover, a caption and a time on a tile records your intention for that position. Nothing on this page schedules or publishes anything.

BEFORE YOU START

  • Access to the workspace, and active membership of the organisation.
  • The "create" or "edit" permission. Reading the plan needs neither, but every change does.
  • Images in the workspace media library if you want covers. The planner offers the first two hundred.

STEPS

  1. Open Feed planner for the workspace, or go to /app/workspaces/{workspace}/feed-planner. It opens on Instagram unless the address names another platform.
  2. Choose "Add tile" for each position you want to plan.
  3. Use the left and right arrows on a tile to move it. The arrows at the ends of the grid are disabled.
  4. Choose the pencil on a tile to open its editor.
  5. Pick a cover image, write the caption, and set the date and time you intend to post it. Choose "Save tile".
  6. Choose "Delete tile" to remove a position, or "Close" to leave the editor.

WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE

A three-column grid that redraws as you move tiles, and a saved tile confirming with "Saved."

WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO

  • It will not schedule or publish. A tile carries a time you intend; the publishing queue carries posts that will actually go out.
  • It will not fetch your existing profile grid from the platform. The planner starts empty and holds what you put in it.
  • It will not switch platform from a control on the page. The platform comes from the address.
  • It will not edit anything from the mobile app. The mobile planner reorders tiles and opens one to read its caption and time, and says so.

WORTH KNOWING

Moving a tile on the web writes that one tile's position and does not renumber the others, so two tiles can end up claiming the same position; where that happens the more recently created one is shown first. The mobile planner writes every position that changed when you finish a reorder, which is why a reorder done there settles the numbering.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK

  • "No tiles yet - add one to start planning the grid." is the empty state.
  • "That tile could not be added.", "That tile could not be moved.", "That tile could not be saved." and "That tile could not be deleted." are the four failures the page distinguishes. None of them says more than it knows.
  • "You do not have access to this workspace." is the API refusal.
  • Being sent to the workspaces list means your access does not reach this workspace. Being sent to /app means you are not an active member of the organisation.
  • On mobile, "That reorder did not save. The plan is unchanged." means nothing moved.

Does the caption here become the post?

No. It is a note on the plan. Writing the post itself happens in the content editor.

Can I plan a grid for more than one platform?

Yes, one at a time, by changing the platform in the address. Each platform holds its own tiles.
