Planning a TikTok Shop LIVE session
Recording a TikTok Shop LIVE selling session alongside the posts that promote it, and exactly which TikTok approvals stand between the adapter and a working connection.
Updated
You can plan a TikTok Shop LIVE selling session in Social Studio, promote it with ordinary posts, and keep the record beside everything else you publish. You run the session in TikTok.
The adapter for TikTok Shop LIVE is written and declares four capabilities: hosting a session, managing the product queue, reading orders and reading viewer metrics. None of them can run. Every call to the marketplace refuses rather than returning a made-up answer, and the reason is approval that TikTok grants, on TikTok's timetable.
Three separate approvals are involved, which is why this is slower than a normal connection: an application on the TikTok Shop Open Platform, approval for the market you sell in, and approval for each individual function the integration calls. Nothing in Social Studio shortens any of them.
BEFORE YOU START
- A TikTok Shop seller account in a market TikTok has cleared for live selling.
- Membership of the organisation, and the "administer" permission to create or move a session record.
- A workspace to record the session in.
STEPS
- Open Live Commerce from the navigation, or go to /app/live.
- Under "Marketplace connections", read the TikTok Shop row. It shows the review status and the four capabilities the adapter claims, none of which is production ready.
- Under "Channel accounts", choose the workspace, choose TikTok Shop, name the account, and choose "Add channel account".
- Under "Live sessions", choose the workspace, choose TikTok Shop, give the session a title, attach the account, and choose "Create draft session".
- Plan and schedule the posts that promote the session in the calendar.
- Run the session in TikTok. Afterwards, use "Cancel" on the record if it did not happen.
WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE
A draft session under "Live sessions" with your title, and a channel account listed as not_connected. Adding the account is a record of an account you hold at TikTok; it is not a sign-in and it grants Social Studio nothing.
WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO
- It will not start a session on TikTok. "Start" refuses every time with "Cannot start live session {id}: no connected channel account."
- It will not queue products, read orders or count viewers, even though the adapter names those four capabilities. Naming a capability is not performing one, and the page shows no figure it has not measured.
- It will not tell you when approval will come. That is TikTok's decision and Social Studio has no visibility of it.
- Attaching a channel account does not make "Start" work. Accounts are created not_connected and nothing in the product writes any other status, so the first refusal is the only one you will ever see.
IF IT DOES NOT WORK
- Being redirected to /app means you are not an active member of this organisation.
- "The selected channel account belongs to a different channel." means you attached a Whatnot account to a TikTok Shop session, or the reverse.
- "This action was refused (...)" is the action gate declining before the session was touched.
- "Live session {id} is not live (status: draft)." is the answer to ending a session that never started.
- "Live session {id} already reached a terminal state (ended)." means the record has already been closed and cannot move again.
- "No workspace is available to add a channel account to yet." means your access reaches no workspace here.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Is there something I can apply for to speed this up?
The seller-side approvals are yours to hold with TikTok. The Open Platform application is Social Studio's, and it is outstanding. Neither can be brought forward from inside the product.
Why does the page list capabilities that do not work?
Because the adapter genuinely scopes those four, and hiding them would make the eventual difference invisible. The review status beside them is the part that says they cannot run.
Can I still measure the campaign around the session?
Yes, for the posts you published through Social Studio. The session's own viewers and sales are only known to TikTok.
