Finding creators in the marketplace

Browsing the creators who have consented to be found by businesses, reading the rates they publish to you, and why a blank audience figure stays blank.

Updated

The marketplace directory lists creators who have done two separate things: published a profile, and consented to be found by businesses inside Social Studio. Both are required, and one does not imply the other.

That matters when somebody is missing. A creator who published a page they hand out themselves, and did not agree to be listed to strangers, does not appear here. That is their decision, not a gap in the directory, and this product will not work around it.

Nothing here is ranked, scored or matched. The order means nothing about quality, because nothing in this product measures a creator.

BEFORE YOU START

  • Membership of the organisation. The directory is organisation-scoped and needs no workspace.
  • To invite a creator or ask for a quote, membership of a workspace: both of those are recorded against one.

STEPS

  1. Open Find creators from the sidebar, or go to /app/marketplace.
  2. Type a name and choose Search, or leave it blank to see everyone listed.
  3. Choose "View rates" on a creator to see the rates they publish to your organisation.
  4. To approach them, pick the workspace to record it in, write a message or a brief, then choose "Invite this creator" or "Ask for a quote".

WHAT YOU SHOULD SEE

A list of creators with their country, categories and audience figure. Opening one shows the rates that creator publishes to your organisation, each with the audience it is published to.

WHAT THIS WILL NOT DO

  • It will not show you a follower count nobody published. A creator who has published no figure reads "Not published", never 0, because a zero would be this product asserting a named person has no audience.
  • It will not show you a rate the creator withholds from you. A rate published to a narrower audience is absent from the list entirely, and the sentence above the rates says so — so the number of rows is never the number of rates that creator has.
  • It will not price a quote-only rate. "Priced per brief" means there is no figure to withhold, which is different from a figure you are not approved to see. A rate you are not approved for is not shown at all; a quote-only rate is shown with no number.
  • It will not send anything. An invitation is a record the creator sees when they open the marketplace; nothing is emailed, messaged or notified.
  • It will not offer you a workspace you are not on. If you can read the directory but are on no workspace, it says so rather than showing an empty picker beside a working button.

IF IT DOES NOT WORK

  • "No creators match" with the consent explanation means the directory answered and nobody matched. It is different from a failure, which says so.
  • A refusal from the server is shown in the server's own words. "This creator publishes this rate only to businesses they have approved" tells you to seek approval; "This creator has not published a figure for this rate at all" tells you to ask for a quote instead. The two are different problems.
  • A message saying the request did not complete means exactly that: it may or may not have been recorded. Reload and check before trying again.

WORTH KNOWING

The directory is a different surface from the public creator pages. This one answers to a signed-in member of a business and shows the rates that membership earns; the public one answers to anybody and shows only what a creator published openly.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Why can I not see a creator I know uses Social Studio?

Because two separate things are required and one does not imply the other: they must have published a profile, and they must have consented to be found by businesses. A creator who has done only the first is using the product without being listed, which is a normal state rather than a fault.

Why is an audience figure blank rather than zero?

Because zero is a measurement and blank is the absence of one. Nothing here reads a platform to count followers, so a figure appears only where a creator has stated it themselves, and it is labelled as self-reported. Writing zero would be inventing a number nobody produced.

A rate I could see yesterday is refused today. What changed?

A creator can publish a rate to everyone, to businesses they have approved, or not at all, and they can change that at any time. The refusal tells you which of those you are looking at: being asked to seek approval is a different problem from there being no published figure to see.

Does appearing in the directory mean a creator will work with me?

No. The directory is who has agreed to be found. Everything after that — an invitation, a quote, an offer — is a separate decision they make each time.

  • Deciding what creators promote for you

Recording the products, services, events and pages a creator would be promoting, and why publishing one is a separate decision from adding it.

  • Running a creator campaign

Drafting a brief creators can apply to, opening it, deciding who applied, and why a fee on a campaign is not an agreement with anybody.

  • Inviting creators and asking for quotes

Approaching one creator directly, asking for a price on a rate that publishes none, and why an invitation marked "sent" was not sent anywhere.
